It’s the age-old question every Disney fan has heard: Do you prefer Disneyland or Disney World? While there are incredible things about both, many fans have strong opinions (we’ll admit it—Disney World might have a slight edge!). But before choosing a favorite, do you really know the difference between the two magical destinations?

Disneyland: The Original Magic

Disneyland is where it all began. Walt Disney opened the park on July 17, 1955, in Anaheim, California. While opening day was famously chaotic—crowds, a heat wave, and even wet paint—it marked the start of a legacy that would grow around the world.

Disneyland Resort is made up of two parks: Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure.

  • Disneyland Park is the heart of the magic. It’s where fairy tales come to life, Tomorrowland gives you a glimpse of the future, and you can join Mickey and friends on classic rides like “It’s a Small World,” “Pirates of the Caribbean,” and “Big Thunder Mountain Railroad.”

  • Disney California Adventure is all about adventure and excitement. You can race through Radiator Springs, help the Incredibles save the day, or join Rocket Raccoon in rescuing the Guardians of the Galaxy.

One of the coolest things about Disneyland is the history. Disney superfans love spotting hidden gems and details that Walt himself had a hand in creating. It’s a must-visit for anyone who wants to walk in Walt’s footsteps.
